HARARE, ZIMBABWE – October 17, 2025 – Zimbabwe's Treasury has released an additional USD 10 million to the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) for farmer payments, providing a significant and timely boost to the agricultural sector.
This latest disbursement, announced in a media release by GMB Chief Executive Officer Dr. E. Badarai, follows a USD 5 million payment made last week. The combined USD 15 million now covers 80% of the outstanding payments for summer crop deliveries, specifically for the USD component.
According to the GMB, these payments are critical for farmers who are currently busy preparing their fields for the upcoming planting season. The injection of funds is expected to accelerate preparations and enhance agricultural productivity.
The board emphasized the importance of these payments in bolstering national food security and enhancing the Strategic Grain Reserve (SGR). Dr. Badarai expressed appreciation for the patience and commitment shown by farmers.
The statement also highlighted the instrumental role of the Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Dr. Anxious Masuka, in engaging the Treasury to secure the funds.
"The Board appreciates the patience of the farmers, and their unwavering commitment to the national food security, and specifically enhancing national Strategic Grain Reserve (SGR)," the statement read.
