STAPLEFORD, ZIMBABWE- In a powerful demonstration of its commitment to youth empowerment and education, Seed Co Zimbabwe hosted its inaugural Career Guidance Day on May 5, 2026, at its Stapleford Trials Station.
Operating under the theme *"Ready to Sprout, Grow Your Impact,"* the event brought together students, employees' children, and beneficiaries of the company's expanding educational support programs for a day of exploration, mentorship, and inspiration. The event showcased Seed Co's multifaceted approach to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), moving beyond financial assistance to actively cultivate the next generation of agricultural, scientific, and business leaders. ### A Message of Limitless Possibilities The highlight of the morning was a stirring address by Felistus Ndawi Gurajena, Managing Director of Seed Co Zimbabwe. She challenged the students to aim higher and embrace a future of limitless possibilities, emphasizing that their current circumstances do not dictate their ultimate destinations. > "You are capable of more than you think. Whether you become a scientist, a business leader, a farmer, an engineer, or something completely different—the world is open to you," Gurajena told the attentive audience. "And who knows… maybe one day, some of you will be standing here, not as students—but as leaders of Seed Co or even your own companies." Gurajena demystified the concept of career paths, reassuring students who were still undecided about their futures. She emphasized that careers are journeys rather than straight lines, requiring core values such as discipline, hard work, integrity, and consistency to achieve success. ### Beyond Seeds: A Multidisciplinary Enterprise A key objective of the Career Guidance Day was to broaden the students' understanding of the agricultural sector. While Seed Co is globally recognized for its seed varieties, the event highlighted the diverse ecosystem of professionals required to drive the business forward. Students participated in comprehensive tours of departmental stands, gaining firsthand exposure to various career paths. The interactive sessions included: * **Research and Development:** Showcasing the scientists developing new, climate-resilient seed varieties. * **Agronomy:** Highlighting the experts working directly with farmers in the field. * **Engineering and Operations:** Demonstrating the technical skills needed to run processing plants. * **Corporate Functions:** Exploring roles in Finance, Audit, ICT, Marketing, Procurement, and Human Resources. This multidisciplinary showcase reinforced the message that modern agribusiness offers a wide array of professional opportunities beyond traditional farming. ### Transforming Lives Through Education The Career Guidance Day also served as a platform to highlight the tangible impact of Seed Co's educational initiatives. The company's CSR strategy is deeply rooted in reducing poverty and fostering self-reliance through education. Currently, Seed Co supports a robust portfolio of educational programs: | Program | Beneficiaries | Focus Area | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | **Student Bursary Programme** | 37 Students | General education support to reduce poverty and build self-reliance | | **85th Anniversary Scholarship** | 10 Students | Specialized support for students pursuing studies at agricultural colleges | | **Emergency Examination Assistance** | 9 Students | Covered O-Level examination fees for vulnerable pupils at St. Manock’s Secondary School | ### A Full Circle of Success: Dr. Danmore Chinsala Perhaps the most compelling moment of the day came during the testimonials session, featuring Dr. Danmore Chinsala. Growing up in Epworth, Chinsala once wrote a primary school essay declaring his dream of becoming a doctor. Through the financial support of the Seed Co bursary program, that dream became a reality. Dr. Chinsala graduated from the University of Zimbabwe College of Health Sciences in 2020 as one of the top students in his class. Today, he serves as the company physician at Seed Co’s Stapleford facility, bringing his journey full circle. > "I am happy that Seed Co enabled my dream to come true," Dr. Chinsala shared with the students. His presence at the event, where he also delivered a health education talk, exemplified the cycle of giving back that Seed Co aims to foster. His story stands as a powerful testament to the transformative power of targeted corporate support, proving that with the right backing and determination, ambitious goals are entirely achievable. ### Cultivating Future Leaders The inaugural Career Guidance Day concluded with presentations of arts and crafts by the participants, followed by closing remarks from the Finance and Commercial Directors. The event successfully bridged the gap between corporate success and community development, leaving the students with a clear message: they are not just guests, but valued members of the extended Seed Co family, equipped and encouraged to grow their impact in the world.
