SeedCo Donates to Mutemwa Leprosy Centre and Ida Wekwako Old People’s Home

Harare, Zimbabwe – In a heartwarming display of corporate social responsibility, SeedCo, a leading agricultural company, has donated a total of US9,060 to two charitable institutions: Mutemwa Leprosy Centre in Mutoko and Ida Wekwako Old People’s Home in Marondera. 4,530 to support their ongoing efforts to care for vulnerable members of the community.

The funds were raised during the SeedCo Annual Golf Day, held at the prestigious Borrowdale Brooke Golf Estate in Harare. The event, which saw participation from over 33 golfers, is a key initiative in SeedCo’s calendar, aimed at raising funds for charitable causes. The company also matches the funds raised, ensuring a larger impact.

Transforming Lives Through Generosity
The Mutemwa Leprosy Centre, a sanctuary for individuals affected by leprosy, expressed deep gratitude for the donation. Administrator Acquinamary Guri highlighted how the funds would be used to extend the centre’s solar system to its clinic and purchase essential medicines for patients.

“Last year, SeedCo donated US$5,000, which enabled us to install a solar system to assist with our daily operations. This year, we plan to expand the solar system to the clinic and buy medicine to treat chronic wounds,” Guri said. She also praised SeedCo for its consistent support, noting that the company visits the centre every three months to check on their progress.

Similarly, Ida Wekwako Old People’s Home, which provides shelter and care for the elderly, will use the funds to upgrade its facilities. Administrator Reverend Clement Matulanga revealed that the donation would help add more rooms and drill a borehole to improve water access.

“SeedCo has been like a parent to us, changing our lives for the better. Their support has been tremendous, and we are deeply grateful,” Matulanga said.

A Commitment to Community Development
SeedCo’s Public Relations Officer, Patience Phiri, emphasized the company’s dedication to giving back to the communities it serves. “The SeedCo Annual Golf Day is more than just a sporting event; it’s an opportunity to play with a purpose. We believe that doing good is good business, and we are committed to serving the communities where we operate,” she said.

Phiri also highlighted SeedCo’s broader corporate social responsibility initiatives, which include providing seeds and agricultural support to communities. The company, which operates in 19 African countries, continues to prioritize initiatives that uplift vulnerable groups and promote sustainable development.

A Legacy of Giving
This donation is part of SeedCo’s ongoing efforts to celebrate its 85th anniversary by making a meaningful impact on society. Over the years, the company has consistently supported charitable causes, demonstrating its commitment to improving the lives of those in need.

The SeedCo Golf Day not only raises funds but also fosters partnerships and camaraderie among participants. The company expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, including sponsors, golfers, and organizers, for their contributions to the success of the initiative.

As SeedCo continues to grow, its dedication to corporate social responsibility remains unwavering. Through initiatives like the Annual Golf Day, the company is helping to build a more inclusive and compassionate society, one donation at a time.
